PEP: Robin Padilla confirms he and wife Liezl have divorced

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Sunday 8 November 2009 9:12 am

Halos 20 years nagsama noon sina Robin at Liezl.

Last year, magkakasama silang pumunta sa Europe, bale birthday gift niya [Robin] ‘yon kay Liezl.

Magba-bonding daw sila.

After ng Christmas vacation nila sa States, back to work na ulit si Robin para tapusin ang shooting ng movie niya with Toni Gonzaga for Star Cinema.

Ngayong puwede nang mag-girlfriend ulit ni Robin, ready na rin kaya siya for another relationship? – Nora Calderon, PEP

‘Wedding of the Year’ for Mar and Korina

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Wednesday 28 October 2009 6:58 am

KORIMAR_0They are now, officially, no longer the most eligible bachelor and bachelorette in the country.

Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas and broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez said “I do” to each other at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City Tuesday afternoon to the cheers of select guests inside the church and the public who closely followed their romance.

The exchange of vows was made with a Filipiniana-inspired background that was meticulously set up by the groom’s cousin, Margarita Fores. Sto. Domingo was literally abloom with sampaguita and rosal, Korina’s favorite flowers, for what is touted to be the country’s Wedding of the Year. Six bishops officiated in the wedding. Fr. Tito Caluag, S.J., delivered the homily.

The radiant bride walked down Sto. Domingo Church’s aisle (purportedly one of the longest aisles in the country) in an ecru Filipiniana dress by Pepito Albert and shoes by Cesar Gaupo to the beautiful  rendition of Vehnee Saturno’s “Kahapon, Bukas, Ngayon” by the Philippine Madrigal Singers with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

The song was inspired by the romantic response of Sanchez to Roxas’ repeat “performance” when the couple became guests in the television noontime show Wowwowee.

Sanchez’s brothers G, Milano, and Mickey gave the bride away to the groom who wore a Randy Ortiz Barong. The senator waited patiently at the altar with the Best Man, his son Paolo.

All the bridesmaids, including Korina’s closest friend Dang Cecilio-Palanca who was Maid of Honor, were dressed in Patrice Ramos-Diaz creations while the male entourage was all in Barong Tagalog by Ortiz.

Baby James Yap, son of actress Kris Aquino and cager James Yap, was the Ring Bearer, while Miguel Sanchez, son of Dyan Castillejos, was the Bible Bearer. Korina’s niece, Shaila, was one of the flower girls.

Broadcaster Ted Failon did the First Reading, followed by Elay Antonino for the Second Reading. Margarita Fores, the groom’s first cousin, delivered the Prayers of the Faithful.

The principal sponsors were Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Chief Justice Reynato Puno, former Senate President Jovito Salonga, ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio Lopez III, George Araneta, Red Cross’ Rosa Rosal, Probe’s Che Che Lazaro, Ruby Roxas, Baby Fores, and Helen Costales.

The wedding was attended by the couple’s closest friends and families as well as political and showbiz bigwigs.

Both public personalities, Roxas and Sanchez opened their wedding to the public with seats reserved within the church on a first-come, first-served basis. There were also giant TV screens outside the church for those who didn’t make it inside the church.

There was none of the pomp and pageantry usually associated with such high-profile weddings. The couple decided to forego their grand reception which was originally planned to cater to 10,000 people at the Araneta Coliseum.

Instead, the couple had a meet and greet with their visitors who were treated to refreshments and sandwiches.

The couple donated the money intended for their wedding reception to the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. An estimated P2.2 million was apportioned to the Caritas Manila, the Philippine National Red Cross, ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya, and GMA 7’s Kapuso Foundation.

The wedding was all the more memorable for its simplicity. An intimate dinner followed at the Bahay na Puti, the Aranetas’ ancestral home in Cubao, Quezon City with just the wedding entourage, immediate family members, and closest friends of the bride and groom, numbering around 200, in attendance.

The “white-and-wood” themed reception featured wooden candelabras carved by artisans from Pampanga and bedecked with rosal and sampaguita flowers for the table centerpiece, glass vases, candles, Venetian mirrors, and Araneta-Roxas heirloom pieces like crystal and silver.

Traditional Filipino food such as caldereta, kare-kare, and lechon, all prepared by Cibo which is family-owned, was served at the wedding banquet. Guests went home with Venetian mirrors and jewelry boxes all crafted in Pampanga as wedding souvenirs. – Manila Bulletin

TV host Kris Aquino’s eldest sister, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, thanked TV host and birthday celebrant Boy Abunda for “not just being an angel, but a living saint for our family.”

Ballsy revealed on “The Buzz” that Boy is their confidant whenever they have ‘problems’ with Kris.

Kris’ elder sister, Pinky Aquino-Abellada, is also grateful to the King of Talk for being “such a good influence on Kris.”

“Kapatid, sorry you gained 5 ‘kapatids,’ but we’re lucky!” she kidded.

Boy returned the compliments to the Aquino family, saying “ang hirap ipaliwanag na ang inyong mga sinabi ay pinupunuan ‘yong wala ako.”

Does Sunshine Dizon want out of GMA-7?

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Tuesday 20 October 2009 1:17 pm

After suddenly exiting “Tinik Sa Dibdib” due to health reasons, actress Sunshine Dizon has reportedly asked the GMA-7 management to release her as their talent.

A source said that Sunshine wants out of the network because she feels she is overworked. She allegedly complained about the long taping hours she spent on “Tinik Sa Dibdib,” and was miffed when her request for shorter work hours (specifically, to be allowed to leave the set at 2 a.m.) was turned down.

The actress, it is said, has asked for her release paper even while she is still bound by contract to work under the Kapuso network banner for two more years.

GMA-7 has served to media this official statement on Sunshine’s backing out of “Tinik Sa Dibdib”:

“GMA Network would like to inform the public that it has pulled out Ms. Sunshine Dizon from her current afternoon drama program, Sine Novela presents Tinik sa Dibdib, due to health reasons.

“It was decided that Ms. Dizon’s condition would make it impossible for her to perform as an actress. GMA Network advised Ms. Dizon to rest in order to fully recover.”

Sunshine spent a day at a hospital recently due to severe migraine.

Some people speculate, however, that the real reason Sunshine has been sickly of late is because she might be pregnant—a rumor that her mother, Dorothy Laforteza, squashed in a separate interview.

Sunshine’s rumored boyfriend is said to be the brother of former actress Tanya Garcia.

Sunshine is currently in Pampanga. She is said to be mulling going to the U.S. soon for a short vacation.

Is Marian Rivera jealous of Rhian Ramos?

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Tuesday 20 October 2009 1:05 pm

“Nakakapagod man pero behind all of these there is greater things, greater reasons…but of course ang main reason, kailangan natin ng lakas para makatulong,” pahayag ni Dingdong. – GMAnews.TV

PEP: Glaiza de Castro’s sickness stress-related

Posted by lynx | News, Showbiz | Monday 19 October 2009 9:43 am

Show business is a hectic world and fatigue can take its toll on an actor’s health without them even realizing it. This is exactly what happened to Glaiza de Castro last Monday, October 12, as she was forced to leave the shooting of her drama soap, Stairway to Heaven, after experiencing troubled breathing on the set.

“After two scenes, natulog muna ako,” Glaiza recounted to Startalk yesterday. “Tapos nagising ako na hindi na ako makahinga. Naghanap ako na puwede ko makuhanan ng hangin, iyong hindi masyado kulob. Tapos noon, hinga ako nang hinga nang mabilis.”

Shortness of breath was not the only thing troubling her. Numbness had started in her foot and was slowly making its way up to her head. The feeling terrified the young actress. “Naiiyak na ako kasi first time nangyari sa akin iyon, e. Tapos nakikita ko iyong kamay ko naninigas na!”

All of these were enough for her to go directly to a doctor to find out exactly what was happening to her. As it turned out, it was all because of stress.

LACK OF SLEEP. “Wala masyadong tulog at naligo agad,” shared Glaiza. “Parang nabigla siguro katawan ko. Malamig pa naman yung tubig. Tinanong nga ako ng doctor kung may nakaaway ako, ano, pero sabi ko na wala naman.”

Glaiza added that after resting a bit, she felt that she was ready to go back to the shooting. “Kaya ko naman,” she said. “Kung kailangan mag-taping puwede ako mag-taping kasi kaya ko naman, e.”

On a lighter note, does her love life have anything to do with her stress? It has been said that her dates with Patrick Garcia were becoming frequent. Are they a couple now?

“Ngayon lang kami ulit nagkausap-usap,” smiled Glaiza. “Savor lang namin yung moment na bago matapos ang Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin, e, makakapag-bond pa kami.”

Then she quipped, “Di ba, ‘pag may love life lalong nakaka-stress?” – Philippine Entertainment Portal

Quiambao opens up about verbal abuse during marriage

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Monday 19 October 2009 6:25 am

MANILA – Television host-actress Miriam Quiambao has finally broken her silence on her failed marriage to Italian Claudio Rondinelli.

Quiambao told “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda in an interview Sunday that her marriage had fallen apart because of her husband’s affair with a younger woman.

The “Patient X” star confessed that her husband admitted about his infidelity over the phone. She was in the country then for a guesting in a reality-based television show here.

She recalled: “We were already having problems then. And I wanted to follow to Italy to spend Easter with him, but he wouldn’t let me. And I was wondering why. I came here and guested.”

“I was here. He called me and he said he wanted a divorce. And I was wondering why. I said, ‘Is there a third party?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ Sabi ko, ‘Let’s talk when I get back in Hong Kong.’ And ‘yon na inamin na niya.”

In 2004, Rondinelli and Quiambao got married in Boracay before moving to Hong Kong. Quiambao had relocated at the height of her career in the local entertainment industry. They separated two years later.

Many people speculated that Rondinelli had physically abused her. On Sunday, Quiambao for the first time denied the speculation.

She, however, admitted that she had suffered emotional and verbal abuse during their two-year relationship.

“Hindi naman po ako binugbog pero I experienced verbal and emotional abuse… and then toward the last three months of our relationship, that’s when he also fell in love with a much younger girl, a different nationality. And that what caused our separation,” she said.

After their separation in 2006, she returned to the country and resumed her hosting and acting jobs here.

Divorce proceedings

It took her three years to publicly discuss her marriage because Quiambao was prohibited by law to talk about it while the divorce proceedings in Hong Kong were ongoing.

On Sunday, she revealed that the proceedings are now in the “last stages.” The result of the hearings might come out either this week or by the end of the month, she said.

The former beauty queen is set to seek an annulment in the Philippines once the Hong Kong case is over.

She broke down in tears as she admitted that it was liberating and a big relief for her to finally talk about it in public.

“Ayoko sanang umiyak pero siguro it’s such a freeing experience to finally talk about it,” she said.

Life after Rondinelli

If she stayed longer in the relationship, Quiambao knew that her “spirit was going to die.”

In spite of what happened, she still cares for him and wants him to be happy, she admitted. She also doesn’t harbor any ill feeling toward him.

After the divorce, she said it’s her goal to remain friends with the Italian businessman, who spent his birthday “soul searching” in Bali, Indonesia.

Likening her experience at the 1999 Miss Universe pageant where she slipped and fell on stage, she said she knows that she can rise again after the divorce has been finalized.

“I feel that what I need to do is to stand up and move forward and trust that God is there behind me. Mas marami pa akong magagawa ng malayo sa kanya,” she said.

She is also optimistic that true love will find her again. If that time comes, she vowed that she will be more careful.

“And if ever that happens again, sana naman po siya na ang tipong binigay sa akin ni Lord para hindi ko na siya pagsisihan in the end. I have to trust Him,” she added.

Bitoy’s new star search

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Sunday 18 October 2009 11:36 am

MICHAEL V’S NEW TV PROGRAM, “gives Pinoys here and abroad a chance to unleash their wild and wacky side. It airs every Saturday after “Celebrity Duets” on GMA 7.

Bitoy is dressed as a futuristic emperor in search for the best skilled and the newest “Internet-ional” star. With his loyal jester Mang Enriquez, he will present his discoveries in the show’s four segments: Talbugan, Videokariran, Facemuk and Gaya Mo Yun? For details, log on to www.bitoystv.com.

How is “SHOwwwTIME” different from Ryan Agoncillo’s “Talentadong Pinoy” on ABC-5? “The main difference is we are going worldwide via partnership with YouTube and auditions are open globally to all Pinoys,” he explains. “And we are more streamlined. A singer has to compete with a guy who eats rocks. The latter gets to compete with a guy who eats glass. We search for the talents. Not everyone has time or means to audition so our staff travels nationwide. We give bigger prizes—75K for every winner who only gets to challenge one.”

Is it harder to act or to host? “I’m more comfy acting,” he says. “Hosting requires you to be yourself and I really don’t have that confidence.”

What’s the most amazing talent he’s ever seen that’s worthy to be featured on his show? “After Ondoy and Pepeng, there’s no talent more awesome than the Pinoys’ ability to survive and move on. I was also stunned by this guy who could wash his face with boiling cooking oil!”

Arnel’s latest journey: Peacemaking

Posted by batuts | News, Showbiz | Tuesday 2 June 2009 11:45 am

ARNEL Pineda has taken on a far bigger role on top of being the lead vocalist of the American rock band Journey. The singer-songwriter’s latest passion: Peacemaking.

“I introduced myself as one of their biggest supporters in bringing about peace,” said Pineda, the United Nations’ newest ambassador of peace, referring to his encounter with “bakwit children” or young people who fled the war in Mindanao and forced to live in an evacuation center in Sarangani.

“I’m amazed that they were able to survive the hostilities. We shouldn’t expect that peace is easy to come by in Mindanao or in other parts of the Philippines. Alongside this, land and livelihood should be provided to our Muslim and Christian brothers and sisters. I’ll do my bit in helping end the violence there,” he said in a recent visit to the Clark Freeport.

Pineda has been sharing the message of unity in this new journey.

“No one is big or small. We are all significant. Let’s join hands so we can attain peace and progress,” he said.

Taking on the peace cause is Pineda’s way of “being Filipino” as he shines in the international music scene.

“Mapagmahal at mabuting Pilipino [Affectionate and a good Filipino]” was how Charito Planas, executive director of the Nayong Pilipino, introduced Pineda to the Aeta people who gathered during the launch of the Aeta Village at the park’s extension in Clark.

Hard times

Born to Kapampangan parents in Sampaloc, Manila, Pineda worked on the streets at a young age after his mother’s death and the family was mired in debt. He sold scrap bottles and metals, and later cleaned ships docked at a pier in Manila.

In those hard times, he kept his optimism high until he found his break in local music circles.

“I’m proud to be a Filipino and I encourage you to be proud of our being Filipino,” Pineda, 41, told the young Aeta people from Barangay (village) Sapang Bato in Angeles City.

For Pineda and other guests, members of the tribe performed the duroro (prayer hymns to Apo Namalyari, the deity of Mount Pinatubo), matubag (war dance) and atang (offering).

Pineda lit the bonfire that signaled the community dancing. He sang two songs for them as gratitude, wishing he could learn their tribal music soon.

“I’m very grateful to them. Kung hindi sa kanila, hindi mayaman ang kultura ng Pilipinas [If not for them, our culture would not be rich],” he said.

Aside from living traditions, the village features Aeta survival skills in hunting, mountain living and fire making.

The people not only built four houses there on funds provided by the provincial government. They also planted vegetables in every available space.

The Aeta Village occupies a northern corner in the 3.5-hectare park that showcases pre-colonial and colonial times in the country’s history. Its addition completes the pre-colonial section.

It also features replicas of the Ifugao rice terraces, Kalinga houses and Maranao Torogan homes.

No dole-outs, please

Wyda Cosme, the first Aeta law graduate, said people helping the tribe survive should avoid giving dole-outs. “The help we need are the kind that will enable us to stand on our own feet,” Cosme said. “Farming assistance is one of them.”

Conching Pamintuan, who, at 65, still tills the land, said Aeta culture is tied to the people’s farming activities.

“Pinatubo’s eruptions [in 1991] destroyed our forests and the rivers but we returned to our villages to farm again to teach our grandchildren to love our land and our culture,” Pamintuan said.
