Not of Works

By Bill Brinkworth

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

The Bible clearly states that there is only one way to go to heaven. That way is by trusting in what Jesus did on the cross to pay for our sins. Good works cannot earn salvation from the punishment of sin.

Before I was saved, I was convicted of all the sins I had committed. Guilt from my sin was a mighty burden that was getting too difficult to carry. The religion I had been raised in taught me that forgiveness and salvation could be earned. I started wondering, “If the promise of heaven can be gained by good works, have I done enough? How many good deeds do I have to do? Is it 100? 200? 10,000?”

Since that time 28 years ago, my almost daily Bible reading has never shown me a number of good works one must perform to get to heaven. The reason a number is never stated is because good works have nothing to do with getting one to heaven. [Read whole article]

Mary The Mystical "Ever-Virgin"?

A key fundamental fact of the Christian faith is the virgin birth of Christ. This required the supernatural conception of Christ in the womb of the virgin Mary without the seed of man (Matthew 1:23,25).

Did Mary remain a perpetual virgin throughout her life? With the Bible as the authority in this regard; we can firmly conclude that Mary did not remain a virgin. According to Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3; and Galatians 1:19... Mary was blessed with the ability to be fruitful by giving birth to several more children by her husband, Joseph.

To suggest that Mary remained a perpetual virgin has been a tool of deception instigated by Satan to elevate her to a status of deity. The ultimate aim in suggesting that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life is to compete with the biblical perspective of Jesus Christ and ultimately diminish the authenticity of God’s Word..

It is very disconcerting to know that all who exalt Mary as the mystical Ever Virgin are entreating [Read whole article]

WHAT "BEING SAVED" DOES NOT MEAN

I am a firm believer that before a person can fully grasp and appreciate truth, error must be exposed for what it is: error. Here are some things many believe "Being Saved" is, but is not:

1. Having your name on a church roll does not mean that you are saved. A person may be a good standing and long standing member of a very fine church. He may attend that church faithfully. But if he hasn’t been saved, he will go to Hell with the vilest of sinners. For the Bible states in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."

2. Being baptized will not save you. There are many baptized people in Hell. I was baptized at the age of twelve, but I didn’t get saved until I was nineteen. Baptism is a very important aspect of the Christian’s life, but one should only get baptized after one has been saved. This is to testify to others that you are identifying [Read whole article]

The Importance of the Bible

The Bible is considered the most important book in the world. Simply because it is God’s word. When you read the Bible, you read a message from God Himself. When the Bible speaks, God speaks. Because the Bible is God’s Word, it does more than just pass on information. It makes a promise, a promise of life. Everyone who receives the Bible’s message in faith, is promised the rich gift of eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s Son. The Bible came from God Himself. God chose several people to write down what He wanted them to. Through God’s inspiration the Bible was written down by people who did not make up these words themselves. The Holy Spirit drove them to speak on behalf of God.

We need the Bible because no one can live fully without knowing God’s true Word. True life consists of obeying God’s every command. We can trust the Bible, because God’s Word is true and all promises will certainly be fulfilled. The Bible is not too ancient [Read whole article]

Aren’t all religions basically the same?

All religions are not the same — Biblical Christianity is absolutely unique among all the religions and philosophies of mankind. Its claim to be necessary for salvation is based squarely on the uniquely powerful evidences for its truth and finality. Actually, true Christianity is not a religion, but a person, Jesus Christ.

“By Him, and for Him, were all things created” (note Colossians 1:16, 17).

Thus, Christianity is unique in the following fundamental respects, among many others.

1. Only in the Bible is God revealed as the one eternal, personal Creator, who brought the entire universe into existence by His own Word.

All other religions start with the material universe as the only eternal reality, with their “gods” being essentially personifications of the natural forces which develop the universe into its present form.

On the other hand, the Creator-God of the Bible has all power and is Himself, therefore, not only the One who created the universe [Read whole article]
